1. Introduction
Let us begin with a simple question. When you watch TV program broadcasting about celebrities such as world economic leaders or famous entertainers, it can be easily assumed that they are usually making a presentation in a "certain" place. Where would this “certain place” be? In a traditional viewpoint, you would have never guessed that this place, which was only considered a place for lodging and food, have extended their position and function as a location where culture is convened. Now, this place serves as a background setting offering meetings, conferences, and other important events. Currently, not just travelers but also common people can go there and enjoy nice food and good nights provided cordially.
Now, you must perceive what we are describing. It is all about HOTEL. Hotel is considered to be the core unit of the service industry. The point of hotel in terms of post-capitalism is that it makes a profit by offering goods and rather immaterial services. This is the main reason why tourism is referred to as an industry without a chimney. Our team considers it is worthwhile enough to reach for hotel as an essential component of contemporary service industries and investigate its organizational change.
Our analytic tool largely depends on the ecological theory. Ecological perspective, which is aimed at the developmental process of organizational population; founding, transformations, mortality, is applied to the hotel population in the South Korea. When we look at a history of hotel industry in South Korea, it is relatively short compared to that of western civilizations. We will, thus, examine how hotels took place in Korea, what factors have an influence on the change of hotel organizations, and why these changes happened.
