Comparing to other product, dairy products such as milk requires the highest quality of taste and freshness through all the process from the ranch to the market. Lots of people today receive milk. Each time when they drink milk they expect freshness. Therefore the company should predict the exact demand, construct sophisticated customer database, logistics & SCM system to maximize the profit. Electronic industry which is different from diary industry allows inventories. However, because milk can not be piled in the factory, to maintain product quality through Information System is essential. In the Information System, especially logistics & SCM take a big part which help delivery done properly in time satisfying exact amount, quality aspect. These system also enable to minimize inventory and maximize quality, profit.

1. The information systems of Seoul milk's SCM.
1.1 Purpose
To achieve those 5 business sections successful, Seoul milk utilize their information system effectively. Not only Seoul but also other milk companies take serious view about their distribution network and system. Because comparing with other products, shelf life of milk is very short and if the company make and hold overstock, then they can't sell but cast it aside.
For example, if an electronic company made 100 TV but they sold only 70, they can sell the rest of products 30 TV using new market extension or price discount. Milk companies, however, if they can't sell their milk in time, the milk can't be sold anymore. This is because the company will get in trouble with the products freshness which is related with their success in the market. Thus exact demanding forecasting and distributing in time is very important.
1.2 History
In 1975 Seoul Milk made IT business unit but its relevance wasn't really that important. At that time, there's no IT infrastructure except telephone and Fax machine. The system was very elementary and troublesome. Headquarter received order requests from many branches in all over the country through telephone or fax, and then, journal the contract data and adjust a sales book.
After calculating branches require, he sent the orders to stock farms for producing. And produce the milk and distribute the products to customers. As it shows, at that time every process was handled by person so those methods made many mistake and was hard to figure out how many request they received and whether the quantity of order was correct or not.
To solve those problems, from 1996, Seoul milk started to do their business using 'internet request system' based on modem and it became the basis of today's IT infra structure. He traveled around the country himself and instructed hi
