After the drama "청춘의 덫" had been made, which is the beginning of 막장 drama, other 막장 drama, such as 인어아가씨, 하늘이시여, 내 남자의 여자, 조강지처 클럽, 아내의 유혹 and 꽃보다 남자 was made. In these days, 막장 drama has been made an issue of itself but it had existed long time ago before, and it is less simultaneous than present 막장 drama in a visual and story way.
Ratings show the popularity of this kind of dramas, and these types of dramas' ratings surpass 30% on average when it was on air. For example, ‘청춘의 덫’ recorded the highest rating of 53.1%, ‘인어아가씨’ of 47.9%, ‘하늘이시여’ of 44.9%, ‘아내의 유혹’ of 43% and ‘꽃보다 남자’ 35.7%. Moreover, of the top ten drama ratings in 2008, ‘조강지처 클럽’ and ‘너는 내 운명’ were placed at 3rd and 4th with the ratings of 41.3% and 39.0%, respectively.
