Abstract
The main topic of our project is to design a personal transportation that better accommodates the environment. Since Korean mothers are experiencing difficulties with using baby transportation in metropolitan areas, our team resolved to construct a baby stroller that is compatible with the Korean mass transportation system. Our final concept is composed of a stroller that single-handedly folds into a compact structure, employing mechanism similar to that of a camera tripod. The seat, which contains straps, can be separately removed from the stroller and carried on one’s shoulders. Such design will facilitate mother and baby’s day out and increase the use of strollers on daily basis.
1. Introduction
In the competitive market, convenience has become the one imperative condition for all successful products. The question of How easy is it to use? determines whether that product will survive in the market or wither away in obscurity. For instance, dial-up buttons replaced by evolutionary one-touch screens is an example as well as wired telephones made obsolete by cordless cellphones. However, it is this convenience that is nowhere to be seen in current models of baby strollers. The user cannot use a baby stroller in mass transportation or travel long distances by foot with the stroller. Thus, she is physically restricted to domains near her home on excursions with the baby. Consequently, the user cannot enjoy the common activities of shopping in large department stores rather than the neighborhood store, meeting college friends at a new café opening in next district, or taking a trip to island of Oe-i-do on a hot summer day. Of course, if the user has an automobile the problem becomes irrelevant. Yet automobiles are expensive and a typical Korean family has a single vehicle which is generally dominated by men. Therefore, our goal is to design a compact, affordable stroller that allows users to make untroubled, happy excursions with their baby.
