4. Why Chinese market is crucial

China has a large pool of under-served patients, representing the next biggest opportunity for the leading medical device manufacturers. China remains the world’s most populous country in the world and is simultaneously home to a large patient base. China is home to more than 100 million people who are 65 or older which illustrates that it’s a country that requires constant update on medical care. As the population continues to grow and people continue to age, the underlying demand for healthcare is also expected to increase.

The medical device industry in China was valued at $15 billion in 2009, accounting for more than 5% of global medical device industry and by 2016, due to the increase in patient pool and improving healthcare infrastructure, there will be an increase in health expenses and awareness and affordability up to $25 billion.

Currently, developed country has ratio of 1:1.9 for medical equipment industry against medical supply industry whether in China, they have ratio of 1:5, which demonstrates the large opportunity growth on medical equipment industry. According to the growth of national economy, there will be a definite expansion on purchase of new or even a quick replacement on medical devices. Out of Chinese medical equipments, 15% were purchased from 1970s and 60% were from 1980s which illustrates that it is time for them to replace the new medical devices. Since Chinese market has unlimited growth potential, it is foreseen that there will be an aggressive competition as well as a large opportunity for number of medical device companies. More than 2100 companies in 20 different countries such as United States, EU, Japan, Singapore and so on, participated on 61st Chinese International Medical Device exhibition and made the record for the largest participants.

1) Government Supports Chinese company and Regulates foreign company
To let Chinese medical device manufacturers grow, government has supported them through some policy and investment, on the other hand, some regulations on foreign companies.
Government has supported as a part of large-scale health care r
