This research has conducted to analyze the main reasons that affected the high rate of suicide in Korea. It firstly was assumed to be affected by the remarkable economic growth in Korea which led the Korea to the 11th economic power country in the world. However, as a result of the regression analysis, the rapid economic growth was not the principal reason of the increase in suicide level in Korea.
The research was started with several explanatory variables, and while testing it by regression analysis, few variables had eliminated. Among the economic variables we added at the beginning, the labor participation is the only left one. The final model indicated that economic variables do not fully explain the high ration of suicide in Korea.
Therefore, the suicide rate in Korea has more association in aging society or divorce rate rather than labor participation. This result indicates that ratio of elders and the divorce rate are increasing and these two factors are quite noticeable according to current situation in Korea. The problem of aging society is getting worse, and the divorce is a serious problem these days. The association between suicide and divorce rate, ration of elders is a significant evidence of current sociologic problem of Korea.
