The background of companies

DAEWOO
Until 1999, Daewoo was one of the big 3 companies in Korea. This company was a cross industrial company in many business areas. One of the main industries was the automobile. This industry has been protected from the foreign corporations by government restriction such as high tax on imports and regulations on establishment factories by MNC.
The automobile manufacturing industry had been dominated by three large corporation, namely Hyundai, Kia and Daewoo. However, after the financial crisis, Kia went to bankrupt and had been taken over to Hyundai. Finally, the industry structure became composed with 2 big companies. In 1998, the performance of Daewoo was excellent , recording the largest number of sales in USA market in which it launched in 1998.
Nevertheless, Daewoo became in the middle of turmoil in 1999 due to its large debts which was caused by the aggressive expansion strategy of ex president of Kim Woo Jung. It was the begging of the birth of GM-Daewoo
