1. 서론
대부분의 사람들은 가족이 “문화”를 가진다고 생각하지 않는다. 그들은 문화라고 하면 국가나 인종과 연관 지어 생각한다. 가족은 ‘단지 우리가 항상 무엇인가를 같이 하는 친숙한 사람들의 집단’이라고 여긴다.
그러나 문화는 특유의 방식의 생각, 감정, 판단, 행동에 의해 정확하게 정의되어 진다. 그렇기 때문에 더욱 정확하고 예리한 방식으로 볼 때, 아이들은 그들이 태어난 가정 문화의 표본이 된다. 아이들이 점점 자라면서, 무엇이 옳고 그르며, 좋고 나쁜 것인지 생각하는 것에 대한 그들의 생각은 가족 문화의 믿음, 가치, 전통에 영향을 받는다. 그들은 대부분 가족의 방식을 당연하게 생각하며, 아동기 때 습득한 많은 태도와 행동을 성인기에도 보여준다.
심지어 종종 가족문화의 모든 것 혹은 부분적으로 부인을 하는 사람들도 그 후에는 그들이 그들의 초기 영향에서 전적으로 자유로울 수 없었다는 것을 발견했다. 그들이 그들 자신과 약속한 것이 무엇이든지 간에 가족의 실수를 반복하지는 않을 것이지만 개개인이 이러한 영향을 의식하던지 안 하던지, 어떤 문화적인 태도와 반응은 가족 구성원들에게 뿌리 박혀 있어서 그들의 생각과 행동에 계속적으로 영향을 줄 것이다.
