영문초록
In the 1950s, descriptive and representative design methods, which were represented as 'black box', developed more logically and analytically as the design methods were applied to the different fields. Since 1980s, however, the design process has been developed more rationally and objectively to acquired modern term the 'glass box'. As the Futures research ability was taken into accounted in the design process after the end of 1990s, the researches which show interest in the designer's intuitive thinking are reappearing. The purpose of the study is to research the design process for Digital Storytelling Production using the long term (at least for the next 10 years) Futures Research Methods (below, FRM). This study differs from other design process research literature that also applied FRM in that it does not intend to manufacture a specific product.
As the ultimate goal of using FRM in the existing product design field is to manufacture a product, they mainly rely on the logical and scientific FRM. This study however focuses on the design process research for the digital storytelling projects where characters are used to create a visual presentation. This can be achieved through intuitive thinking together with analysis of the current political, economic, social, cultural and technological factors.
Research process in this study follows three steps: The first is essential to grasp the overall research flow of the design process by classifying the histories and transitions of design process within a given period of time, in accordance with philosophies or scientific theories at that time, and the contents of the studies; the second, FRM, which are mainly applied to the recent design fields, are investigated and analyzed; the Third, theories based on intuitions are investigated. Since intuition are continuously being questioned for their factual unreliability. This study investigated the concept of 'intuition' as defined by Henri Bergson and Bertrand Russell, subsequent to its reemergence (after the 1970s) in modern philosophy; the design process which is applying the intuitive FRM through the three steps above was suggested.
In conclusion, the 'intuition' which is used at the synthesis stage of the design process and the intuition in the stage of the 'result by thinking' which Herman Kahn stated in FRM are identical. And the intuitive methods which were considered as unscientific in the design process and FRM may be accepted as logical since they are arrived at a logical procedure.
