|Horizontal widescreen such as 16:9 became the aspect of today’s image display. Many TV shows and movies we watch are displayed in landscape structure, but is it still effective these days? In the past when silent movies were being produced, size of the screen was very important. Many methods were practiced such as fitting the frame to the camera to narrow down the view and to express the depth or connecting three screens side by side next to the projector to achieve wide screen size that close to that of recent cinema. Today, there are a wide range of expression method in producing screen and image through multimedia and window of applications such as PC. Smart phones are introduced these days that use vertical screen aspect however, there are not many contents that use vertical screens. Many advertisements on streets use digital signage that are also vertical, but most of these ads use the common aspect ratio which leave left over spaces on top and bottom of the ad where company logos are written. Despite the increasing number of vertical screen, the aspect ratio is too small for smartphone contents and is not unified. Development of portrait layout as the goal of this study, most effective vertical aspect ratio is investigated and researched with examples.
