|In the history of stereoscopic imaging, the shallow focus technique caused by depth of field1 has not been used so much, so it can be said that the technique has not been established. Therefore, we experimented with a presentation of stereoscopic images by using the shallow focus. In this experiment, we used the stimulus images by changing a convergence point2 and a binocular parallax3 variously, and surveyed how they affect the viewer"s sense of depth. We used 3DCG software as a stimulus. In the images, two objects were placed on different positions of depth. Two images in which the depth of field differ from each other were simultaneously and randomly shown to the viewer. Then, the viewer chose the image they think that the distance of the target interval is longer. With the method expanded Thurstone"s Paired Comparison4, we organized the data we gathered. In the end, our purpose is to make guidelines for expression of the sense of depth by using the shallow focus technique in stereoscopic imaging.
