영문초록
Shade and Rhinoceros (Rhino) are surface-system and solid-system three-dimensional (3D) software programs, respectively. A teaching course using these two 3D programs of differing characteristics has highlighted that students with hearing impairments have significant differences in their conceptual understanding of solid body structures. In particular, Shade creates forms from first principles, a level of abstraction that National University Corporation Tsukuba University of Technology (NTUT) students found difficult to identify with. The confusing nature of the Curved Surface function, which controls the profile lines that describe a surface, is considered to be a primary factor for this intractability. In contrast, Rhino creates shapes through combination or modification of geometrical figures, and is easily comprehended by NTUT students. Thus, to clarify students’ conceptual understanding with regards to the structure of solid bodies, an assignment to investigate the composition of a solid body was conducted with the more easily understood Rhino. As a result, the conceptual ability of students with impaired hearing was found to be low in comparison with students with normal hearing from another university. A key factor in product design is an ability to handle the composition of forms as an abstract concept. Realization of this abstract concept has thus been shown to be a challenge for hearing-impaired students.
