The grafting of 2,3-epoxypropylmethacrylate (GMA) on polypropylene (PP) fabric was carried out by the r -ray preirradiation grafting technique to prepare the grafted copolymer with epoxy groups which have the advantage of the introduction of organic compounds in the former study. In this study, the fact of chemical bonding between monomer and polymer matrix was proved by several analytic methods. It was found that the diameter of each fiber consisting of fabric was significantly thickened with the degree of grafting as evidenced by SEM photographs. Also, the considerable change in the thermal behavior of polypropylene fabric was found by comparing the TGA curves of ungrafted and grafted polypropylene fabrics. These were due to the chemical bonding between GMA and polypropylene fabric identified ESCA and FT-IR ATR analyses.
