This thesis places importance on studying general aspects of the Gaoli(Goryeo; 高麗) Lodging(高麗亭館) in Suzhou(蘇州), which was the symbol of friendship between Korea and Sung China. The significance of Gaoli Lodging is very important. Goryeo in the East, Sung(宋) in China and Liao(遼) in the North formed a tripartite balance system in Northeast Asia at that time and searched for an active diplomatic relationships. The state of Sung treated Goryeo envoys well in order to restrain Liao through Goryeo when Goryeo and Sung resumed their diplomatic relation in the middle of 11th century. Shenzong(神宗) of Sung newly built the so-called Gaoli Lodgings in cities through which Goryeo envoys passed. Suzhou belonged to the South Road. There were four Gaoli Lodgings in Suzhou. Two were located in inner city and the others were in outside of the city. Gaoli Lodgings in Suzhou were the historical places in which people of the two nations developed cultural interchange and good cultural inheritance symbolizing friendship between the two nations.
