영문초록
This essay critically addresses the problems posed by HAN Byung-Chul in his acclaimed thesis "Mudigkeitsgesellschaft" (Fatigue Society).Han asks us to see an excess of positivity in today`s subjects as a kind of systemic violence, and he has a point. It is absurd, however, to deny social antagonism behind this overly positive spirit in "animal laborans" and to assert "exploitation without domination." Self-exploitation goes perfectly well with domination, exclusionary violence, and social antagonism. Also, it can easily be turned into exploitation of others, as is illustrated in PARK Min-Guy`s short story "Rudy". Han s suggestion, as alternatives to overpositivity, of active negation-"active" in the Nietzschean sense-and "Nichtstun"(or nicht-zu: do-nothing) is interesting and perceptive. Yet again, without the practical system of work duly considered, his "Nichtstun" could only be a fantasy of laborless life or a reference to restful and parasitic interludes detween (self-)exploitive days. The radical utopianism of "Nichtstuin" lies in the idea that all people do their work precisely as activity of "Nichtstun"-i.e., as free, meaningful activity, performing but never prioritizing a "task(cevre)"(J-L. Nancy). A community of "Nichtstun"(or"desceuvrement") is also a community work, and as such, requires its own operative system. Our imperative, then, is to experiment with the system of "Nichtstun" in reality, practicing the power of active negation-which is one way of responding to the Bartleby story by Herman Melville, and to HAN Byung-Chul`s reflection on "fatigue society"as well.
