국문초록
이 논문은 홍대용 후손가에 내려오는 3종의 사본을 소개하고 분석하였다. 그 유물은 차례로 『鐵橋話』와 『三家詩抄』, 그리고 『書帖』이다. 분석을 통해 이들 사본은 이덕무가 직접 쓴 手稿本 책자와 편지로 밝혀졌다. 첫째로, 『철교화』는 중국 친구인 嚴誠의 사후에 홍대용의 요청으로 이덕무가 교감하여 필사한 책인데, 『乾淨同會友錄』의 원형에 가장 가까운 사본의 하나다. 둘째로, 『삼가시초』는 영조시대에 활동한 詩人 세 명의 시집을 뽑아 베낀 초본인데, 이덕무 친필 사본으로서 그 내용이 뒷날 詩話 『淸脾錄』으로 수용된 사실을 밝혀냈다. 셋째로, 이덕무가 홍대용에게 보낸 것으로 추정되는 간찰 한 통의 내용을 분석하여 당시 지식인들의 『昭代叢書』 열독현상과 康熙帝에 대한 긍정적 평가가 담긴 중요한 의의를 지닌 문건임을 밝혀냈다. 3종의 유물은 18세기 지성사에서 중요한 위상을 차지하는 홍대용과 이덕무의 인생과 학문을 조명하는 새로운 근거를 마련해줄 수 있다. 이 유물은 다른 학자의 중요한 저술과 작품을 베끼는 과정을 통해 지식을 습득하고 체계화시키는 抄書의 학문 방법을 이덕무가 채택하였음을 보여주는 좋은 사례이다. 이 자료가 이덕무의 학문세계를 깊이있게 분석하고, 그 시기 학자들의 학문 전승과정을 유기적으로 파악하는 단서를 제공할 수 있다.
영문초록
This article, which analyzes three manuscripts preserved by the descendants of Hong Taeyong (1731-1783), posits that the booklets were hand-written by Yi Tongmu (1741-1793). At the request of Hong after Hong`s Chinese friend Yun Cheng (1732-1767) passed away, Yi corrected and hand-wrote Ch`olgyo hwa (鐵橋話 Story of Yan Cheng), very similar to the original form of Jian jing dong hui you lu (乾淨同會友錄 Record of the fellow members of Konjongdong). Yi also Compiled and hand-wrote Samga si ch`o (三家詩抄 copy of three great men` poems), the anthology of three men who flourished in the reign of King Yongjo (r. 1724-1776); the collection was later included in Ch`ongbirok (淸脾錄). Soch`op (書帖 scrapbook) contains letters that seem to have been sent to Hong by Yi. One of the letters examined in this article captures the time Korean intellectuals eagerly read Shao dai cong shu (昭代叢書) and evaluated Kangxi (r. 1661-1722), the Qing Emperor. These new manuscripts elucidate the life and literature of Hong and Yi, both of whom represented the intellectual society in eighteenth-century Choson Korea. The three manuscripts also suggest that contemporaneous Korean intellectuals learned systematically from other scholars by selectively copying their works. These manuscripts are thus valuable in that they exemplify a popular educational method among intellectuals at the time as well as the literature of Yi Tongmu.
