獨谷 成石璘(1338~1423)은 여말선초의 유학자이다. 학계에 잘 알려지지 않았던 독곡선생은 성백효(成百曉)에 의해 독곡 성석린의 문집이 번역되면서 세간에 알려지게 되었다. 이 연구는 독곡의 사상을 연보와 그의 저작 특히 시문을 중심으로 개괄하는 형식으로 학계에 독곡의 인물됨과 사상을 소개한 글이다. 학계에서 여말선초에 관한 연구는 주로 고려의 멸망 혹은 조선의 건국과 관련된 문제에 초점을 맞추었으며, 사상적 측면에서도 성리학의 도입과 전개를 주로 다루었다. 그러나 독곡 성석린의 사상은 당시 유학을 중심으로 하되 도·불이 공존하였던 지성인의 모습을 잘 보여주고 있다. 따라서 독곡에 관한 연구는 여말선초의 지성인의 사상을 객관적 관점에서 엿볼 수 있는 좋은 사례가 아닐 수 없다. 철저한 유학자이면서도 도교와 불교 사상에도 깊은 조예가 있었던 독곡선생의 天經地義의 完人精神을 통하여 유학을 중심으로 하되 도교와 불교 사상이 잘 어우러졌던 여말선초 학계의 동향을 파악해 볼 수 있을 것이다.
This thesis focuses on understanding of Dock-Goc Seong Seak Lin`s Thought. Dok Gok had successively filled "YoungUiJungBuSa" which was just like the Prime Minister posts three times in 1402, in 1409, and in 1412 which was at his age 65, 68, and 75. On June 13th 1395, when he was 58 years old, more importantly, he made his entrance into an official position of the first Mayor of Hansung (called ``ChoDaePanHanSungBuSa``), the capital of Joseon dynasty. In the following year, in summer, he was appointed the GeaSungYuHuSaYuHu. He left his poems continued to the number 459 that he had composed when he was alive. When King Taejongjo kept the throne for 18 years, Dok Gok had been playing as "BoGukJiShin" in which his role was to assist the King while staying right beside, and Dok Gok`s fulfillment was recorded on "TaeJongSilRok" in detail. Nineteen years after Dok Gok`s death, the King Sejong ordered "KyungYeonKwan"(who was a national tutorial group for the King) to arrange and publish Dok Gok`s posthumous papers. According to the preface of "Mo Si", ``it is traditionally said that such a poetry would be the place on which the meaning would be located, the meaning should be rooted in the mind, and a poetry would be created by expressed words.`` In the same way, during his lifetime, Dok Gok left 459 poems expressed by the words based on the meanings from his mind. Also, Dok Gok`s poems were handed down during 600 years until now. I looked into the eternally and absolutely righteous philosophical idea of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism by examining the chosen ten poems from Dok Gok`s posthumous poetry. In the ten poems, the word, "YumRakKwanMinJiHak", which means Neo Confucianism, were referred. Inasmuch as I wrote "Confucianism in the Era of Song and Neo Confucianism of Korean" and I have specialized in Confucianism and Neo Confucianism, I am able to examine and analyze Dok Gok`s poems with professional perspective. The finding showed that Dok Gok was a prominent and thorough philosopher of Confucianism and he had a profound knowledge in Philosophy of Taoism and Buddhism.
