박물관 전시 매체의 특성에 따른 관람객 경험의 차이: 안동지역 역사박물관의 비교 분석

    본 연구는 최근 활용도가 높아지고 있는 박물관 디지털 전시에 대한 관람객 경험의 특성을 살펴보기 위해, 최근 건립된 지역 역사박물관의 전시 방식을 주제 및 매체의 특성에 따라 유형을 구분하고, 이들 가운데 디지털 전시만으로 구성된 박물관과 아날로그만으로 구성된 박물관에서 관람객 전시 경험의 차이를 비교 분석한 연구이다. 지역 역사박물관을 현장 조사하여, 디지털 전시를 활용하는 대표적인 박물관으로 <안동전통문화콘텐츠박물관>을 선정하였고, 아날로그 전시 박물관으로 동일한 지역과 유사한 주제를 다루고 있는 <안동민속박물관>을 선정하여 관람객의 전시 경험의 차이를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, 지역 역사를 주제로 하는 박물관에서는 아날로그 전시 매체의 활용이 많았고, 지역의 생활 풍습을 주제로 하는 박물관은 디지털 미디어를 활용하는 경향이 상대적으로 많은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 관람객들은 디지털 전시가 아날로그 전시에 비해 상호작용성이 더 높으며, 더 즐거운 경험으로 인식하고 있었다. 이에 반해 두 박물관 전시에 대한 유용성 및 용이성 평가와 교육적 효과에 대한 평가는 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 없었다.
    영문초록
    The Ministry For Culture, Sport and Tourism of Korea announced a goal, of developing into a cultural power by 2012. To achieve this goal, Korean local governments have increased the number of facilities, including museums and libraries, in order to expand the nation`s cultural infrastructure. However, most of those construction projects are going without a master plan. In particular, high-priced digital media projects which require large budgets have been installed without detailed exhibition plans. This study aims to investigate whether digital media installations are utilized efficiently in the right place at exhibitions in recently built local history museums. Thus, this study focuses on the digital media environment in museum exhibitions and the present condition of digital media used in museum exhibitions. The study also confirms whether the effect of digital media practically enhances visitors` experiences at those particular exhibitions. Through theoretical discussion, several items were selected as characteristics of digital exhibition media, such as interaction, utility, availability, and common characteristics of digital media. In addition, enjoyment, attention, and time warp were adopted as variables to explain the immersion experience of visitors in museums. To measure the satisfaction of visitors, variables such as general satisfaction, intention of revisiting and recommending to others were adopted. A summary of the results is as follows. First, this research analyzed the present conditions of digital media exhibitions in 20 museums opened after 2000. Researchers categorized those exhibitions according to the themes and the media environment of the exhibitions. Historic theme-centered museums mainly used analog media in their exhibitions, while folk life theme-centered museums mostly adapted digital media for their exhibitions. In terms of a visitor`s experiences in exhibitions and the educational effect consequential to characteristics of the digital media, interaction was only significantly higher in museums with digital media, and the educational effect showed no significant difference between museums with analog media and those with digital media. Third, with respect to a visitor`s immersion experience, enjoyment was significantly higher in museums with digital media. However, there was no significant difference in the other variables. Last, satisfaction according to the media environment was significantly higher in museums with digital media. The results suggest that museums are able to enhance interaction between displays and visitors through digital media, but are not able to provide a perfect immersion experience for visitors. However, visitor satisfaction was higher with digital media usage, which shows that visitor satisfaction can be enhanced by using digital display media.
