영문초록
The need for the study on North Korean laws and its judicial system was recognized by the Ministry of Justice, as the reconciliation between east and west was expanded and the exchange and contact between two Koreas was increasing in the 1990`s. When Kim Il-sung, President of North Korea, was dead in 1994, the Supreme Court embarked on the North Korean legal studies by establishing Judicial Policy Institute on July 21th to effectively promote research on North Korean judicial system. The Ministry of Justice was supposed to gradually implement North Korean legal studies as a series of its routine work and judicial policy, based on National Community Unification Formula, giving priority to the tasks which are closely related with courts service. Thus the following subjects have already been studied on; North Korean judicial system, North Korean real estate system and institution of family, legal problems arising from reunion of separated families, the policy on restoration of family register, inter-Korean judicial integration and etc. These studies enables the Ministry of Justice to prepare and accumulate research findings for unification, and to understand the current North Korean judicial system. Furthermore, the Ministry of Justice plans to conduct further research on judicial system which will give legal support for increasing inter-Korean exchange and cooperation, and will ultimately prepare for the realization of unification.
