국문초록
조사표 설계는 자료의 품질을 향상시키는 데 직접적으로 영향을 미치는 중요한 분야임에도 불구하고 우리나라에서는 지금까지 이 분야가 연구대상에서 배제되어 온 경향이 있다. 1980년대 말 이후로 인지적인 접근방법이 조사방법론 영역에 소개되면서 해외 주요 통계작성기관에서는 조사표 설계에 대한 연구를 활발히 진행해 오고 있는 것과는 매우 대조적인 모습이다. 인지적인 접근법이 조사표에서 응답자의 이해와 관련된 문제점을 진단하고 개선하는 데 효과적이라는 연구결과들이 축적됨에 따라 조사표 설계 및 평가와 관련한 여타의 방법에 대해서도 관심이 증가하고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 인지면접 및 사용성 평가를 포함한 주요 방법론의 특징과 관련 연구결과에 대해 검토해 보았다. 향후 이러한 방법론을 적용한 조사표 설계를 통해 우리나라 통계조사의 품질 향상을 기대해 볼 수 있을 것이다.
영문초록
The questionnaire design has been an important role in improving the quality of data. However, there is a tendency to exclude this questionnaire design area as a meaningful research area in Korea. It is contrasting that national statistical offices in foreign country have been devoted active researches in questionnaire design combined with cognitive approaches since late 1980s. There are cumulative researches that cognitive approach is one of the very effective methods in understanding respondents` thought and diagnosing the related problems. These results come along with concerns of other testing methods of the questionnaire design like behavior coding and respondents` debriefing. This paper reviews features of major testing methods in questionnaire design as well as a cognitive interview. We expect the questionnaire design applied with these methods will devote to improve the quality of survey data in the future.
