This article analyzed Die Taube by Suskind, whose first novel Das Parfum(1985) made him become the first famous post-war German writer. This novel belongs to the genre of novella. Basic features of novella are a core event(“an unheard-of event”), leitmotif and an idea to sum story of a novella with a phrase and these link the entire structure organized. In Die Taube, appearance of dove is an unheard-of event. Thunder and lightning are leitmotifs and play role to lead the novel. Based these formal facts, this article analyzed symbolism of dove and meanings of thunder and lightning. The protagonist Jonathan is a person who pursued a life without communication with other people. He considers encounter, event as catastrophe. His belief of life without communication as happiness has been developed specifically as anonymousness, loneliness and orderliness as philosophy of life. After 30 years of this life without events, he accidentally recognized that life without communication is not utopia but is like death and returns to the world in the end. In this novella, Suskind proved utopia without human beings is a fiction through his message by this novel.
