|The objective of this paper is to analyze inter-regional virtual water trade in Korea by using the inter-regional input-output (IRIO) model. We calculated the amount of virtual water consumption by region and by industry, and the results can be attributed to the final demands of each region in the study. The findings showed that the agriculture, manufacturing, and utilities sectors play a significant role in virtual water consumption in Korea. Furthermore, inter-regional virtual water consumption (virtual water imports from other regions) accounted for 41.5% of total virtual water consumption. Our results indicated the existence of mostly one-way inter-regional virtual water trading with Seoul.
