The effect of photo-aging caused by UV exposure during skin aging on the skin is as follows: increase in deep wrinkles, sagging of skin, change of skin pigment and blood vessels. In the case of deep wrinkles and sagging of the skin, it causes destruction of collagen and other fibrous cells constituting the skin, so that wrinkles are developed more deeply, and elasticity is lowered to cause skin sagging. For this reason, skin elasticity is used as various signals of aging.
This study showed the anti - aging - related effects on the skin of Aronia melanocarpa berry extract, which is known to be effective as antioxidant, anticancer, and heart disease prevention. The effect of cyanidin 3-galactoside (C3G) in the berry of Aronia melanocarpa was investigated. The effect of collagen was inhibited by increasing the toxicity and collagen production of skin cells. In addition, cosmetics containing Aronia melanocarpa berry extract were used for 21 weeks in 21 female subjects. The content of cyanidin 3-galactoside (C3G) was 1.54% in the Aronia melanocarpa berry grown in Danyang, Chungbuk Province. The cytotoxicity test by MTT method showed no significant toxicity. The production of collagen was increased in a concentration-dependent manner, and the inhibitory effect of MMP-1 inhibition was also confirmed in a concentration-dependent manner. The 12-week human body application test of cosmetic products containing Aronia melanocarpa berry extract showed a statistically significant increase in wrinkle-related values from 4 weeks after use of the product, and the effect was maintained for 12 weeks. Through this study, it was confirmed that the extract of Aronia melanocarpa berry can improve the wrinkles of the skin and it is thought that it will be used as a main raw material for functional cosmetic materials in the future.
