|The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Oenanthe stolonifera Juice an the liver damage of carbon tetrachloride-treated rats, Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 200g were divided into 5 groups of control group(Normal), CCl₄-treated group(Toxicant), Oenanthe stolonifera Juice-treated group(OSjuice), Oenanthe stolonifera Juice-pretreated and CCl₄-treated group(Pretreatment) and CCl₄-pretreated and Oenanthe stolonifera Juice-treated group(After treatment). Hepatoprotective effects of Oenanthe stolonifera Juice an the activities of glutarmic oxalacetic transaminase(GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase(GPT), alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and contents of total-cholesterols, HDL-cholesterols, total-lipids, triglycerides, phospholipids and bilirubins in serum were examined. The activities of GOT, GPT and ALP alter CCl₄ treatment were significantly increased, compared to control group, but those levels were markedly decreased by the administration of Oenanthe stolonifera Juice. The levels of total-lipid, total-cholesterol and phospholipid were elevated by CCl₄-treatment as compared to control group, and treatment of Oenanthe stolonifera Juice reduced those levels. These results suggest that Oenanthe stolonifera Juice is considered to have a possible protective effect for the CCl₄-induced hepatotoxicity in rats.
