This article is focused on the study about the meaning of the disappearance of the ark with a short discussion on its function and introduction of its importance in Israelite history, The ark of the covenant which is the special emblem of God``s presence functioned as a revelatory instrument of divine attributes, It was a centerpiece of Israelite religion throughout its history from its beginning to its end as an independent country. The ark appears to have disappeared at the destruction of Jerusalem. The disappearance of the ark that might throw the Israelites into despair at that time shows a new hope eventually. In perspective of Reformed Life Theology, the loss of ark was a signal to unfold the period of new covenant when Israelite religion would no longer be bound to physical symbols and God``s people could enjoy fullness of life in Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit because all that the cultus ever stood for in old covenant would be brought to the full fruition in Christ. |
