국문초록

본고는 이스라엘 역사에서 언약궤의 중요성을 소개하고 언약궤의 기능에 대한 간략한 토의를 한 후 언약궤의 소실의 의미를 살피는데 비중을 두었다. 하나님의 특별 임재의 상징인 언약궤는 이스라엘 종교와 역사에서 특별히 하나님의 속성을 계시하는 도구로 쓰였다. 언약궤는 이스라엘 역사의 초기부터 그 나라가 멸망할 때까지 종교의 중심에 있었다. 그 언약궤는 하나님의 주권에 의해서 이스라엘 멸망과 함께 사라진 것으로 본다. 언약궤가 사라지는 것은 당시 이스라엘 사람들에게는 실망을 안겨줄 수 있는 사건이 될 수도 있겠지만 사실은 새로운 희망을 주는 것이다. 개혁주의생명신학의 관점에서 언약궤가 사라지는 것은 이스라엘의 종교가 미래에는 더 이상 물질적 상징을 이용한 제의에 얽매이지 않고 하나님의 성령의 역사로 말미암아 그리스도의 충만한 생명력을 누리게 되는 새언약시대가 펼쳐지는 것에 대한 신호가 된다. 왜냐하면 옛 언약시대에서 모든 종교적 상징물이 의미하는 것들이 그리스도 안에서 완전히 성취되기 때문이다.

영문초록

This article is focused on the study about the meaning of the disappearance of the ark with a short discussion on its function and introduction of its importance in Israelite history, The ark of the covenant which is the special emblem of God``s presence functioned as a revelatory instrument of divine attributes, It was a centerpiece of Israelite religion throughout its history from its beginning to its end as an independent country. The ark appears to have disappeared at the destruction of Jerusalem. The disappearance of the ark that might throw the Israelites into despair at that time shows a new hope eventually. In perspective of Reformed Life Theology, the loss of ark was a signal to unfold the period of new covenant when Israelite religion would no longer be bound to physical symbols and God``s people could enjoy fullness of life in Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit because all that the cultus ever stood for in old covenant would be brought to the full fruition in Christ.
