|This study aims to analyze how TV historical drama, satisfies the general public`s ambivalent desire toward history. One of TV dramas, , which deals with the creation process of Hangul by King Sejong overthrew the universal images in an appropriate way without damaging the universal values of the important figures in history. In particular, we need to note that maintains such balance while dealing with the greatest king in Korean history, King Sejong who created Hangul - the most significant event in history. shows the hidden side of King Sejong which previous works about King Sejong couldn`t have ever shown. Also, the King "Lee Do" who agonizes, conflicts, and desires enhanced dramatic reality and caused dramatic interest. could strengthen dramatic commitment and interest with a strategy that it makes most use of fictional characters like Jeong Gijun, Gang Chaeyun, and So I and selects or excludes specific parts of history. In other words, satisfies the general public`s demands for history and drama with various strategies and based on these strategies, presents various meanings helpful to reflect the relations between Sejong and characters (or letters), the king and people, and the past and the present.
