국문초록

이 연구는 국회의원들의 개인적 배경 혹은 사회경제적 배경이 국회의원들의 이념 성향에 어떤 영향을 끼치는가에 관한 연구이다. 국회의원들의 이념 성향과 정치적 선호는 매우 중요한 의미를 가진다고 할 수 있다. 그들이 향후 어떤 의정활동을 하고 어떤 투표행위를 할 것인가, 어떤 정책을 찬성하고 어떤 정책을 반대할 것인가, 또한 어떤 사안에 관하여 어떤 내용의 법안을 발의할 것인가 등에 국회의원 개인들의 이념이 매우 중요한 영향을 끼치기 때문이다. 이 연구는 이 같은 문제의식에서 제19대 국회의원들의 개인적 배경과 이념 성향간의 관계에 대해 경험적 분석을 시도하고 있다. 연구 결과는 몇 가지로 요약될 수 있다. 우선 국회의원들의 이념 성향은 이들이 속한 정당과 매우 밀접한 연관관계가 있다는 점이다. 과거 한국 정당이 특정 지도자를 중심으로 결성된 지역정당이었다는 점과는 다른 현상이며, 한국 정당이 이념 정당화되고 있다는 점을 의미한다. 지역과 재산 변수가 국회의원들의 이념 성향과 밀접한 관계가 있다는 사실도 밝혀졌다. 그 외에 국회의원의 연령, 지역구의 도시·농촌 여부도 그들의 이념 성향과 일정 정도 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영문초록

This paper explores the relationship between ideological positions of the 19th Korean National Assembly members and their socio-economic backgrounds at the individual level. Previous research tells us that individuals with different levels of income, age, and other personal backgrounds should be expected to have different political ideologies and policy preferences, This study finds strong effects of age, economic status and other individual characteristics of the Korean National Assembly members on their ideological preferences, This paper also finds that the political parties they belong to have an effect on the members` ideological positions as mediating factors. This might means that the Korean political party system has been realigning along the line of political ideology.
