4. SWOT Analysis
Appraising a company’s resource sstrengths and weaknesses and its external opportunities and threats, commonly known as SWOT analysis, provides a good overvies of whether its overall situation is fundamentally healthy or unhealthy.
4.1 Strength
4.1.1 Aircraft Possession Superioty
1) The more possession of aircrafts in compare with competitors: KAL (121), AAL (61)
2) Scale of economy & advantages in market expanding
3) The better relationship with Boeing Company who is no.1 aircraft supplier => stable supply and continous maintanence
4.2 Weakness
4.1.1 Low Safety
1) The safety is the most basic factor in air-line industry
2) Old and aged aircrafts and their cabin => a lot of costs to change the aged aircrafts to the newer aircrafts
3) ‘Guam blasting accident’
4.3 Opportunity
4.3.1 Foreign Demand Increase
1) Foreign tourist 7 millions
2) National differentiated marketing for foreigner’s tourism & extention of Korean Culuture
3) Regionally located on center in East North Asia => Role expection as a core hub of distribution and circulation
4.4 Threat
4.4.1 From International Environment
1) Oil price uncertainty and increasing oil price
2) Terror threats - 9.11 terror
3) International air-line charge increase
4.4.2 From Domestic Environment
1) JeJu Airlines => Low price and local airline strategy 1.5% market shares in 2006 year
2) KTX Stable settlement and continous growth => domestic airline demand decrease
