what is the ISD
ISD is basically based on macro Instructional Design (ID). To solve the problem about human's education and learning, ISD develops an education discipline program through the process of 5 things ; analysis, design, develop, implement, evaluation. ISD is like a process of decision making and ISD affects to supersystem of ID.
ISD and ID is also concerned with Instructional Technology (IT) and Human Performance Technology (HPT). Nowadays, these four things are used in many places together.
ISD gives a firm basis that decide audience, context, time, place, method and on. Because of this reason, ISD can be adapted to every field ; from small group's individual learning design to a large enterprise or army education program.
And there are many models about ISD. First of all, ADDIE model which famous in educational technology field is original (normal) model in ISD. Dick & Carey model and R2D2 model also exist in ISD and these two things compared with ADDIE model several time by many expert. At first, we will search about ADDIE.
ADDIE model
The ADDIE model is most well-known model among many ISD model. This model is the generic process traditionally used by instructional designers and training developers. The five phases-Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation-represent a dynamic, flexible guideline for building effective training and performance support tools.
It is an Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model. Most of the current instructional design models are spin-offs or variations of the ADDIE model; other models include the Dick & Carey and Kemp ISD models. One commonly accepted improvement to this model is the use of rapid prototyping. This is the idea of receiving continual or formative feedback while instructional materials are being created. This model attempts to save time and money by catching problems while they are still easy to fix. For example, the ADDIE model was used in the framework for helping create new research topics in learning technology.
Instructional theories also play an important role in the design of instructional materials. Theories such as behaviorism, constructivism, social learning and cognitivism help shape and define the outcome of instructional materials.
limitation of ISD
While various ISD approaches exist, most agree that the fundamental systems ISD framework includes analysis, design, development and evaluation of an instructional system
Gordon and Zemke (2000) launched an attack on ISD in Training magazine that triggered debate among top industry researchers, theorists and training practitioners. While critics are generally unanimous in their position that new alternatives are needed, the criticism and proposed solutions are wide ranging and are at times in conflict. For example, some feel the model is too prescriptive, while others decry it is too generic and simplistic to provide value in complex training situations (Zemke & Rossett, 2002). However, it is possible to summarize the critics’ positions into the following two areas:
