1) The systemic basis for the Joseon Dynasty
The basis for Joseon kingship was Confucianism. All other religions were excluded, making Confucianism the foundation for the Joseon system as a whole, and the primary subject of education for king, crown prince, and peasant alike.
The virtues of Confucianism were humanity, righteousness, propriety and erudition, and these constituted the basic framework of the Joseon Dynasty. The Five Bonds formed its concrete basis, namely, "righteousness between king and ministers", "distinction between husband and wife" and "affection between father and son", which called for loyalty to the king and respect for one another; and "trust between friends" and "order between younger and elder", in which hierarchy and mutual respect were observed as basic courtesies. There was also customary respect for the Confucian sages Confucius and Mencius, whose teachings were rigorously studied. Also, much research was invested into the question of how kings and ministers might rule like the ancient sages. Efforts to realize the ideal state were grounded in Confucian principles of respect. Because a system was instituted for benevolent governance of the peasants, Joseon's ethical mode of rule received the spontaneous support of the people and the system enjoyed
