1. Introduction
The unlawful-like incidents depicted in the recent movie “The Crucible” had become a hot and rising issue among the nation of Korea, and is even now yet to abate in debate. Not only is the so-named ‘crucible law’ a political issue, but it is a socially psychological one on many levels as well. It is worth discussing and investigating in a social cognitive point of view to fully understand the case.
On October 28, the National Assembly had passed “the amendment for a special case investigation of reinforcing punishment of sexual violence,” which had won 207 votes out of 208. The ‘crucible law’ was so named by this recent enforcement. The ‘crucible law’ enforces several things—that perpetrators of sexual abuse on disabled females or children under 13 years old are liable to penal servitude or even life imprisonment in jail; that they will repeal the statute of limitations on the crime of sexual abuse; that additional or worse punishment can be inflicted on professors or workers of facilities for handicapped or disabled individuals; and that they will adopt resolutions to prevent human rights violation, such as sexual abuse, on disabled individuals.
