Executive Summary
This paper examines the human resource management of Korean Asset Management Corporation (KAMCO). The authors tried to examine weak spots of KAMCO’S human resource strategies and provide recommendations. Three areas of improvement were found: Tall hierarchal structure, recruiting imbalance, and dissonance in the new performance measurement. Tall hierarchical structures hinder an effective communication between managerial levels and slow down work processes at KAMCO. A flattening of the organizational structure, the use of externships, and employee empowerment could significantly help KAMCO increase its efficiency and competitiveness. Recruiting imbalances resulting from unofficial university quota have denied talented people from joining the company and, thus, prevented KAMCO from hiring the best talents. The new performance measurement caused great dissonance and a lack of communication between top management and lower level employees. Improving the communication between both parties by increasing the chances and ways of communication and the use of mediation methods could tackle this problem effectively and lead to more united work force at KAMCO.
