Ⅰ. introduction
A demand of Korean Cabbage has various characteristics compared with other food because of seasonally demand. First of all, there is strong seasonally demand change especially just before the winter. Traditionally, Koreans store cabbages with salt and levigated chili, we call it Kimch, in the fall for consuming during winter. Also, as same with other food, the supply of cabbage reacts responsively. Also, a price of Cabbage is much affected by the special distribution system which is the speculative vegetables bought in lump sums at fields called 밭떼기. It’s very similar with a future market in an aspect of mechanism determining price before shipment.
Cabbage price in Korea shows huge variation due to these characteristics every year. Prices of cabbage has collapsed just after a year experienced price soaring. Due to this phenomenon, many cabbage farms have suffered and consumers are also in trouble. Because cabbage is one of the most important foods in Korea, the huge variation of the price is big problem. Finding a solution for this problem is necessary for each home which is difficult to making budget and it could be a basic action for farmers by stabilizing price. This paper, as the result, contains analysis for characteristic of cabbage demand in Korea in the first, and covers with reasons, comparing with price soaring in 2010 and price collapsing in 2011. In the end, there is consideration which solution the best for this phenomenon is.
