Colonial Legacy and Institutional Structure
The Philippines reformed their institution and system by Spain and the United States during the colonial period. However, the US failed to make an efficient administrative organization.
South Korean institution was highly influenced by Japan and US army military government. => Japan strongly pushed ahead with reformation of the institutional structureto annex the South Korea.
Influence and Role of the United States
After World War II, United States provide economic and military aid to South Korea and the Philippines.
Korea used these US economic aid for restoring ruined their country and constructing strong nation. (Industrialization)
In the Philippines case, US economic aid was relatively lower than South Korea. However, they already had a tied trade relationship with US government and cooperation, so they could growth their economy.
