What is Oxfam?
Oxfam is an international confederation of 17 organizations networked together in 92 countries, as part of a global movement for change, to build a future free from the injustice of poverty.
The 17 Oxfam organizations are based in: Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Quebec, Spain and the United States
Oxfam Int’l was founded in 1995 by a group of NGOs who wanted to reduce poverty worldwide.
The name “Oxfam” comes from the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, founded in Britain in 1942.

Health
Good health care is a fundamental right, not a luxury.
-Every minute, a woman with no medical care dies in pregnancy or childbirth.
-Every hour, 300 people die of an AIDS-related illness
-Every day, 4,000 children die of diarrhea caused by dirty water
Start locally
In Zugdidi in rural Georgia (basic, affordable care in village)
Darfur, Sudan(Clean water and sanitation in emergencies)
Act globally
Health care for all is a massive challenge, but an achievable one.
What’s needed is the will, and the funding.
Governments of developing countries must invest in their health services. And rich countries, backed by international organizations like the World Bank, must solidly support them.
This is the main focus of our Health and Education campaign.
Education
School helps children develop the skills they need to make themselves heard in the world
-72 million children are out of school (over two-thirds are girls)
-771 million adults worldwide are illiterate (64 per cent are women)
-Two million new teachers are needed today to provide kids with a decent education – and 15 million will be needed by 2015 to achieve education for all
