1-1 Introduction the semiconductor industry
1. Semiconductor industry
Semiconductors are extremely important in virtually all areas of life. They are vital for many consumer products.
This industry has changed society in uncountable ways. Semi- conductors are installed in virtually all technical equipment, ranging from dish- washers, microwave ovens and flat screens to machine tools. The use of semi- conductors in cars, trains, aircraft and ships is constantly expanding. Mobile telephones consist mainly of chips. PCs, servers and pocket calculators owe their existence to the development of semiconductors. The world would be different without semiconductors and would surely be slower. And semi- conductors have also laid the foundation for worldwide networking through the Internet. The development process continues to move ahead.
2. Main products

Broadly speaking, the semiconductor industry is made up of four main product categories:
1.Memory: Memory chips serve as temporary storehouses of data and pass information to and from computer devices' brains.
2.Microprocessors: These are central processing units that contain the basic logic to perform tasks.
3.Commodity Integrated Circuit: Sometimes called "standard chips", these are produced in huge batches for routine processing purposes.
4.Complex SOC: "System on a Chip" is essentially all about the creation of an integrated circuit chip with an entire system's capability on it.

1-2 Company selection
1. Global semiconductor market
Here we have a graph that shows a ranking of the global semiconductor market in revenue and market share.
The global semiconductor industry is dominated by USA, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, and European Union.
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. of South Korea is benefiting from the dramatic growth of the memory market. Company revenue is expected to surge by 60.8 percent, causing its market share expand to 9.3 percent, up 1.7 points from 7.6 percent in 2009.
Samsung and Hynix as the leader company of Korean semiconductor industry, having the good performance and increasing market share in global market.
2. Korean semiconductor market
The graph below shows growth is forecasted in only two regions in 2012 - Korea and Taiwan.
