Youth
Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of sixty more than a boy of twenty. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

젊음
젊음은 인생의 시기가 아니오, 마음의 상태이다. 그것은 장밋빛 볼과 붉은 입술과 유연한 무릎의 문제가 아니오, 의지와 탁월한 상상력과 활력에 찬 감정이 있느냐의 문제이다. 삶의 깊은 샘이 신선하면 그것이 바로 젊음이다.
젊음이란 기질이 소심하기보다 용기에 넘치고, 수월함을 좋아하기보다 모험의 욕구가 강한 것. 이것은 때로 스무 살의 청년보다 예순의 노인에게도 있는 법이다. 나이를 먹는다고 그것만으로 늙는 것은 아니다. 이상(理想)을 버림으로써 우리는 늙어갈 뿐이다.
