IV. Expected Values
NATE is one of the biggest web portals in South Korea and was developed by SKCommunications. It has operated the online community service Cyworld and acquired a great population of users. However, recent statistics show that its market share has gradually decreased due to a multiple of reasons. We chose NATE because it is the third largest one in South Korea, and it has lost its way when Cyworld started to fall. It can be attributed to the fact that Cyworld did not follow the trend of openness. That is why a new profit model is desperately needed by SK. Since more people are now using web portals through smart phones, we will focus on the mobile users. So in this paper, our group aims to present a smart way of increasing the traffic number of NATE, thus creating more value of the firm. We will discuss the current situation, the new profit model itself, and the values that are expected to be created through the new model.

The graph above shows how the mobile users are using the internet. It tells us that most of the smart phone users are using the internet service for searching basic information, reading news articles, and talking with their friends. First of all, smart phone users use their phones due to portability. It is easy to carry and you can take it to wherever you go. Second, people can use their phones for killing time. When you are waiting for your friend, you are most likely to be holding your phone and doing something with it. Lastly, you can have a little bit of fun with it. So basically the trend is to use the mobile internet service for simple entertainment.
