1.Introduction
1) Motivation of the study
The heaviest investment in sports team occurs in finding a good player. However, some teams succeed in contracting with players who are devaluated in the market, but some teams fail. Because how well the player plays is not measurable in the first place, many professional leagues make statistics that can support people of interest in this ‘risky’ investment. We want to find decision rule for the sports team managers who are in charge of player contracts based on the ice hockey. So we used NHL data that is the richest and biggest ice hockey league in the world.

2) Topic of the study
The topic of our study is to find the decision rule about the annual salary for NHL ice hockey team managers. First, we will divide the players into 3 groups based on the annual salary, and find the rule that allocate players to the appropriate group membership by their positions. Then we expect the readers to get the basic decision criteria to use when they negotiate the annual salary with new players, whether he is qualified enough to get this amount of money or not, upon the performance variables the player shows. In our study, we consider several variables that can show the performance of each player.
