Phenol이 작용시 적은 양이나마 수용액에 녹는다. 이렇게 녹은 phenol을 수용액에서 제거 및 Interphase가 잘 형성되게 해준다

Phenol : Chloroform : Isoamyl alcohol = 25 : 24 : 1 또는

① D1 unit (distillation)
원할한 azeotropic distillation을 하기 위하여 별도의 Distillation 유닛을 달아 separartion model로 들어오는 feed stream을 water와 ethanol의 azeotrope point 조성으로 맞추어 주었다.
