RENT

(The audience enters in the theatre to discover a stage bare of curtains.
At stage left looms a metal sculpture intended to represent: [a] a totem
pole/Christmas tree that stands in an abandoned lot, [b] a wood burning
stove with a snaky chimney that is at the center of MARK and ROGERs
loft apartment, and [c] in Act II, a church steeple. On stage the
five-musician band
sculptures,
in a cavernous coldly-decorated space.
Swiftly, deftly, the Thief rigs a suction-mounted HARNESS to the
steel casing above a massive window. Pulleys, metal caribiner
clips, yellow Kevlar ropes. So superbly practiced, the rigging is
placed in seconds, huge SUCTION CUPS pressed to the surface of the
glass. The Thief reaches to a metal rectangle at the top of the
rigging, touches a butto
sculpture
by ltsabuchi.
Look at it as if you understand it.
As if it understands you. See?
No, thats not the way we look
when were thinking of ltsabuchi.
React to it. Just... say it.
Itsabuchi, hmm?
You havent quite got it.
Now, listen carefully.
You are in the Museum of Modern Art,
Marion.
Deep, Marion. Profound, Marion.
You have come across this statue.
It says something to you
because you are
sculpture.
POV - SCULPTURE AND CHILDREN
a blur where the sculpture seems to be distorting the children,
almost like mirrors in a fun house.
NEKHORVICH
wipes his eyes, a horn honks. He looks toward the sound.
MOVING SHOT - SATCHEL (INT. AIRPORT SECURITY - DAY)
on the belt that takes it thru X-Ray. On the other side a guard
opens the satchel and pokes thru a few toilet articles, personal
items,
flower-strewn glade. A FIGURE emerges from the
trees and walks toward the water. It is a YOUNG WOMAN dressed in a
flowing white dress that swirls around her in the breeze. The pink
light burnishes her hair and causes a gold circlet she wears on her
head to glow. She is breathtaking, a vision of innocence and grace.
She stops to pick a flower and then turns suddenly as if she has
heard something.
