콜버그 도덕성발달이론(Kohlberg's stages ofmoraldevelopment)은 로렌스 콜버그(Lawrence Kohlberg)가 시카고 대학(University of Chicago)의 대학원생이었던 시절에 스위스 심리학자 장 피아제(Jean Piaget)의 심리이론을 확장해 도덕발달단계를 설명하는데
장 피아제는 아이들의 지적 발달능력에 초점을 맞춘 인지발달이론을 제시한 인물이다. 그는 “인식(knowledge)”을 단순히 정보의 저장고가 아니라 개인의 행위도 포함하는 하나의 과정으로 보았다. 어린 아이들은 공에 대해 그것을 줍고, 튕기고, 손가락으로 눌러보는 과정 등을 통해 인식을 하게 된다.
