1. Who is Kuznets?
Kuznets, born in Russia is an American economist He was an authority on national income theory and national income statistics and was awarded Nobel economics prize in 1971 by contributing numerical analysis in economics. His principal work was estimating national income and comparing types of economic growth of each countries. These achievement has been evaluated by great outcome.
2. Environment Kuznets curve
This is a curve that show how polluted environment is, a GDP per capital increases. According to this graph, environment become soiled as economy develops under initial steps, and after some level points, it rather decreases pollution as economy develops. Here is a example of Kuznets curve. You know the air of New York's park is cleaner than that of Afghanistan, Kabul. Surely, income level which is turning points is different from each countries, each kind of polluting materials. However, it is proved such relationships between GDP and the level of contamination under long-terms.
3. Environment Kuznets curve applying case of Korea
Korean economic growth, called as 'Miracle of Han-gang', has made progress since 1960s. GDP level in 1985 was only $2309 but GDP level in 2004 was fully $14162. This level is almost same as that of Portugal, Spain, and Greece. Furthermore, Korean market share of vessel industry and semiconductor industry boast a world-class level. Then, what shape of Environment Kuznets curve can be appeared when applying Korean cases?
Our team analysed level of GDP and CO level in Korea from 1996 to 2007 by Eviews program to apply Environment Kuznets curve in Korean case. Under chart shows level of GDP and CO level in Korea from 1996 to 2007.
