INT. AUDITORIUM - 1972 - DAY
TWO BOYS sit on opposite sides of a chessboard. One is NINE,
the other FOURTEEN. The room is SILENT, the tension between
the two young players severe. All the ADULT PLAYERS that have
been eliminated from this match by the two boys stand around
watching. On the wall is a BANNER
THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY
Our story begins in 1965, on a hot afternoon in August.

EXT. IOWA LANDSCAPE - DAY
Rolling green hills, lush farmland, vast open space. Not a
house or sign of life in sight. On a long dusty road, a TRUCK
is driving across the screen. Clouds of dirt follow in its
tracks -- its motor, the only sound we hear.

INT. ST. ANNES ACADEMY - AKRON, OHIO - CLASSROOM
We are in a parochial school classroom, in the late
Sixties. The children all wear uniforms and sit at little
desks. SISTER IMMACULATA stands at the front of the room;
she is a middle-aged nun, very severe. The children are
all terrified of her.
SISTER IMMACULATA
Who can name all
SISTER MARGUERITE is locking up for the night, shutting doors, turning off lights, finally walks off down the corridor. Suddenly a terrified scream is heard, the voice of a young woman.
EXT - CONVENT - NIGHT
Lights in the windows flick on.
INT - TOP CORRIDOR - NIGHT
The nuns are running up the corridor in their night dresses and caps, calling urgently in French. They reach the door of Sister Agne
A high AERIAL SHOT of the island features the Statue of Liberty prominently in the foreground then TRAVELS ACROSS the harbor, OVER the Battery and Lower Manhattan to Greenwich Village.
EXT. EAST 77TH STREET - DAY

Voice : An impact equivalent to ten thousand nuclear weapons detonating simultaneously.
A HUGE DINOSAUR FOOT steps down hard and is VAPORIZED with a deafening ROAR.
