That article posted on Dec. 11th 2009 in Medicalnewstoday.com tells us that many people during holidays such as Christmas or New Years day, drink more alcohol than they normally do and have unprotected sex. Name of the author is not provided.
According to a research conducted by YouGov Plc and launched by leading sexual health charity Marie Stopes International, 48 percent of respondents aging from 18 to 35 said that they drink more alcohol during holidays. And 27 percent of the respondents said they did not use condoms or any contraception while or after having sex because they were too drunk. Marie Stopes International launched “Wrap it up” campaign to prevent such phenomenon. “Wrap it up” campaign encourages people to use condoms. In addition, there is a contraceptive pill offered by Marie Stopes International that can prevent pregnancy if it is taken within three days after having sex. The research also showed other results; 1. 19 percent of the respondents had sex with someone who they just met at a party because they were drunk, 2. 45 percent said they wouldn’t have had sex if they weren’t drunk, 3. 41 percent regretted having such sex in the next morning, 4. 73 and 64 percent of male and female respondents said they were extremely drunk and considered themselves at the time as “out of it.” Lindsay Davey, Sexual Health Nurse at Marie Stopes International said drunken people who are into the mood of a party have impulsive sex and it can cause them, even if it’s just one time, to be pregnant or infected. She also said that abortion rate is the highest during January and February. A person who had unprotected sex should visit hospital even if he or she doesn’t see any symptoms.
