Case Study: Hyosung Slush Fund
It was confirmed that Cho Hyun-joon, 41, president of the Hyosung Group and eldest son of Chairman Cho Seok-rae, purchased a villa worth 4.5 million dollars (5.6 billion Won according to the exchange rate at the time) in the Los Angeles area in 2002. Since Cho paid for the villa in cash, many observers are wondering about the source of this money. Chairperson Cho Seok-rae is a relative of President Lee Myung-bak by marriage. Cho’s nephew is the President’s son-in-law.
