Firstly, people can learn how to treat people with the right manner. People who live in a large family are taught manners and courtesy by elderly in their family. In a large family, they live with people of various ages such as grandparents and they are scolded by the senior when whey treat them impolitely. Actually, one of my friends who is an only son in a head family was well liked by his professors and friends, because he knew how to interact with them pretty well. Since a long time, ago the cultural background of Korea has been based on Confucianism which emphasizes courtesy. Even when I was a little kid, I could learn the manner of ancestral rites and customs such as how to bow during the ancestor worship ceremony. They even think that the courtesy for the dead is also important. Therefore the merit of large family is that people can learn how to treat others with the proper manner.
