Performing Experiment 1
All 12 subjects performed our experiment. However, 3 files which contained the responses of 3 people were including errors. For that reason, we analyzed 9 files of our experiment, using ANOVA with SAS.
Results of Experiment 1
According to ANOVA data, RT was significantly different from those 2 conditions, replicated and switched. The mean RT was about 764ms in replicated condition, while 780ms in switched condition. Though it seems that the difference between 2 conditions is rather small, the data shows its statistical significance (Pr>F=.0063).
In this sense, we concluded that shape can also cause priming effect. Based on this result, we planned the other experiment, which contains color information with shapes.
(2) Experiment 2 : Shape Priming with Color Information
Experimental Design
We made a new experiment following the format of experiment 1. It also contains 4 items among which only one shape is different from others. All of them have differently oriented bar, and the locations of items are also same as experiment 1. Just like before, subjects are asked to respond based on the orientation of target. At this point, we applied color information to the shapes. There are 2 colors, red and green, because they seemed to contrast with each other. For that reason, in a trial, there is a target which has different color and shape information from other 3 distracters sharing same color and same shape information. For instance, if the target is red circle, another 3 distracters become green squares.
In addition, we set control trials, which contain only shape information without color, as we did in experiment 1. We thought that the salience of color was usually stronger than other
