soft features and piercing blue
eyes. She wears Eddie Bauer womans gear like she was born

Eric expertly fixes his aim and slowly squeezes the trigger.
But instead of a loud retort, there is only the dull POP of
a CO2-powered dart gun.

NEW ANGLE

The tranquilizer dart finds its mark in the wolfs fleshy
shoulder. The wolf takes off running, but almost
immediately slows, sits
ground zero. Maybe you should say a
few words, to mark the occasion.
JACK

JACK (V.O.)
With a gun barrel between your teeth,
you only speak in vowels.
Jack tongues the barrel to the side of his mouth.
JACK
(still distorted)
I cant think of anything.
JACK (V.O.)
With my tongue, I can feel the
rifling in the barrel. For a second,
I totally forgot about Tylers wh
ground, STARING UPWARDS, as FLAME and EXPLODING MUD scatter above us. Men scream and die around us. The screams amid the GUNFIRE and EXPLOSIONS are piercing and terrible, as though the jungle itself is frightened.
An AMERICAN wearing a jungle hat with a large Peace Sign on it, wearing war paint, bends TOWARD US, reaching down TOWARD US with a large knife, preparing to scalp the dead.

The small boats of Mystic tug restlessly at their
moorings.
OLDER CHUCK (V.O.)
He had taken us to worship, where,

EXT. DOCTORS OFFICE - LATER
Chuck stands silently on the periphery of a gathering of
people. They surround a small building, a neighborhood
clinic. A worn gray stone, long in the earth, dedicates

1 EXT. OUTER SPACE 1
The infinite blackness punctuated by a billion stars.
As we slowly DESCEND through the varied shades of blue
of the Earths atmosphere, we HEAR the first strains of
a haunting, Central American FLUTE, joined by a swelling
background of JUNGLE SOUNDS. We descend further,
through a lush JUNGLE CANOPY, backlit by a s

NAPOLEON
(quietly)
Fuck off, Bremond.
BREMOND
Oh, my goodness. What language!
Did you learn that from your mother,
Bonaparte?
Bremond is 4 years older and much bigger than Napoleon.
NAPOLEON
Fuck off!
At this moment, Dufour gives him a violent bump from
behind, spilling milk all over his uniform and splattering
the book.

But she wont discover that its him til chapter three!

Her looks have got no parallel!
MERCHANT: But behind that fair facade
Im afraid shes rather odd
Very different from the rest of us...

the 4 jungle gym, the blast has warped the swing set, the
merry-go-round has sagged in the firestorm. Small skulls look
accusingly from the ash-drifts. WE HEAR the distant echo of
childrens voices... playing and laughing in the sun. A silly,
sing-songy rhyme as WE TRACK SLOWLY over seared asphalt where the
faint hieroglyphs of hopscotch lines are still
GROUND GARAGE - DAY
Gray cement walls blur past as the panel van descends a
circular ramp to a lower level. As it straightens out, the
view through the windshield reveals a gathering of men and
vehicles - marked and unmarked DC police cars - and two black
SWAT vans.
The panel van - with Marcells Crab House painted on its
sides - pulls to a stop. The back doors open from the inside

the dog kennel.
FADE IN:
A STARRY BLACKNESS
From out of the billions, the smallest of specks drives
slowly forward. It closes; getting larger; its features
becoming more identifiable: a vessel. Flip-flopping; out
of control. Its stern roaring with flame. It passes; its
blue fire surging into the screen.
"THE THING"
A thundering...
