John Dryden (9 Aug 1631 – 30 April 1700), nicknamed Town-Bayes, an influential English poet, literary critic, translator, and playwright who dominated the literary life ofRestoration England.
Born in the village rectory of Aldwincle, Northamptonshire. The eldest of 14 children of Eramus Dryden and Mary Pickering – an Parliamentary supporting family with Puritan learnings.
